The Citizenship Law of the State of Israel, the ‘Law of Return’, states that persons who have at least one ‘Jewish’ grandparent are entitled to Israeli citizenship. In cases of doubt, the Jewish ancestry of immigrants is verified by means of a genetic test. The Federal Republic of Germany also treats persons in the states of the former Soviet Union without Jewish or German ancestors as inferior.
